Scientific Illustration Pricing: Scope and Quote Preparation

Scientific illustration prices depend on the agreed scope. Compare the figure type, complexity, deliverables, revisions and deadline rather than an unsupported universal starting price.

Describe the task before requesting a price

Specify whether you need a process diagram, complex mechanism, graphical abstract, TOC graphic, journal cover or animation. State the approximate number of figures and panels, available source materials, intended use and deadline. Clarify whether the scientific narrative is already approved or still needs collaborative planning.

Figure task Scope that changes the quote Delivery question
Simple process Number of stages and original icons Which shapes remain editable?
Complex mechanism Scale changes, entities, arrows and scientific review Which source layers and labels are included?
Graphical abstract or TOC Narrative choices and target composition Is a second journal-specific version included?
Journal cover Concept alternatives, 3D modeling and rendering Is caption preparation included?
Animation Duration, scenes, rendering and audio Are original scene files included?

Make quotes comparable

Ask each provider to identify included figures, concept options, scientific review stages, revision limits, file formats, editable content and delivery milestones. Clarify how a new direction, additional panel or changed deadline is handled. A file extension does not guarantee a specific level of editability.

Use a short inquiry record

Prepare a shareable abstract, research area, intended figure role, panel estimate, target journal, reference style, source-file needs and requested date. Establish confidentiality arrangements before transferring unpublished material. The hydrogel and catalytic-interface archives help communicate composition complexity without adding private data.

Separate three different charges

An SCI Artisan platform plan is not a commissioned design package. A design commission receives a separate written quote. Any publisher cover or publication charge is another arrangement and must be checked with the publisher. This guide does not invent fixed prices, turnaround times or included revisions for overseas commissions.
